Lightricity is helping to develop an energy-autonomous, intelligent railway monitoring system in the Spectrail project, in a project consortium including the Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult, AP Sensing and Pyreos Ltd.
Spectrail is an Innovate UK backed project which recently won funding from the Department of Transport as part of a series of projects under Network Rail’s R&D programme, and will support their predict-and-prevent maintenance strategy. The project aims to develop a low-cost, multi-sensor system which explores new areas of railway monitoring including track obstructions, human trespassing, track temperature changes, soil saturation and pollution levels.
